Many self-employed business owners don’t take time for themselves to renew and recharge. And even if they schedule something in an attempt to relax, they are tempted to cancel the appointment! I must say I am like this. But I would like to suggest something to those of us who find ourselves in this place. Don’t cancel. In fact, not only should you keep that massage appointment, but while you are there, I suggest you, “Lean in.”
What do I mean by, “Lean in?”
Have you ever sat down and had a friend’s dog (usually a large one) come and sit down next to you? The next thing you know, they are not sitting next to you, they are leaning (heavily) on your leg. Sometimes they even lay down on your feet!
What does that leaning mean? Perhaps it means they like you, or want to know you better. Or maybe it means they are just happy to be right where they are at that moment.
That is what I suggested to a friend who had appointments scheduled this week and was thinking she should just cancel them. I insisted that not only should she not cancel her appointments (facial and hair cut) but instead she should, “Lean in” to the appointment. That she should take the time to relax because she deserved it. And she needed it. And to not spend it worrying about what she wasn’t getting done at that moment, but that she should be leaning into the moment and enjoying being right where she was.
What about you? Do you take time for yourself once in a while? It could be a trip to the library, or a walk in a park. It should involve just a few minutes alone with yourself. You will come back to your work with a new perspective and maybe some new insight.
Schedule some time today, and at least once a week that is a few minutes just for you. You deserve it. Enjoy!
