A new grandson (number 5!) is expected in December. I was trying to find a boy fabric and one of my customers (We’re Sew Creative, Concord, NC) had just received the StudioE Safari Drive line by Tim Beaumont. I was able to purchase a panel and some print yardage for a border. For the binding I purchased Blank Quilting Geo Flow striped fabric. I love to make bias binding using a stripe so it makes a diagonal border. The total project went very quickly. I squared it up, added the borders, layered, quilted and bound it in about 3 hours. I kept the quilting simple with lines along the borders and edged of the motifs. I really like how the current panels hardly look like a panel at all!
If you are a grandmother, or mother to girls, you have probably never lamented how difficult it is to find good boy things. Having only sons and grandsons, I find myself a little jealous of my friends who have girls. There always seems to be more girl clothes on the racks. And they are soooo cute! Anyway, here is the finished quilt. I used a Request weight Quilter’s Dream batting and it is quilted with red and blue Aurifil thread. Enjoy!
